Focusing is carried out with the focusing mechanisms of the r. The optical design is quite complicated, with 11 elements in 10 groups.

This Schneider betavaron zoom r lens is in very good condition, used only sparingly for copy work. In fact, the diaphragm shape is a pentagon with concave sides and projecting vertices. The diaphragm aperture of the betavaron is far from being circular, which is one of the factors that are usually said to contribute to high quality pictures, or good bike, in out of focus areas of macro and close up lenses.

The moving groups slide on solid internal metal rods and the lens mount is a 39mm thread, which is standard for r lenses of shorter focal length s. The Schneider Kreuznach kreonite betavaron 08 is the only zoom r lens designed for darkroom printing.

The lens is being sold as is there are no scratches, fungus or fog on the lenses, but there are a few specks of dust between the internal elements. Included is the front lens cap no rear cap. The lens is designed to cover the 35mm format.

The mechanical design is conservative, with two internal groups moved by cams, and fixed front and rear groups. Being an r lens, it does not have a focusing ring.
